Hot Mic'd Becomes The Yapper's Digest

Hot Mic’d, The Newsletter got a rebrand, and is now offish The Yapper’s Digest from Girl and the Gov, The Podcast. Why, you ask? Because we managed to get forever locked out of our Hot Mic’d portal LOL. Yay for technology…and tbh, user error. BIG OOPS aside, we’ll take it as a blessing in disguise because now we have a fun new title! What’ll be the same-same is the core of the newsletter – The Yapper’s Digest will share our POVs, tea, recs, and everything ya Girl and the Gov, The Podcast gals yap about under the sun on a given week. And as we say [as of a moment ago], yapping makes the world go ‘round, so the more yap, the better ;)

With summer on the horizon, I’m… excited but also preparing for the classic foggy SF summer. That does mean there’s a BIG ol’ excuse to add more cozy sweatshirts to my closet… and maybe an umbrella? -MM

A place I’m dying to go is… So, like Sam, I also want to go to Montana. Maybe it’s in the cards this summer?? It just looks so beautiful. We recently interviewed Ryan Busse, who’s the Democrat running for governor there for the podcast, and hearing him talk about how cool Montana is, and all the places to check out, only made me want to go more. BTW, that eppi will be out in May – you also may find yourself looking up flights to Montana after. You’ve been warned. -MM

A sitch I’m holding my breath about is… what will happen next with TikTok. Will someone buy it? If yes, who? Will it be right-wingers? Left-wingers? No-wingers? Where will the litigation go?? So many questions, so little time, sorta. -MM

In a land of bonkers political happenings… this one really does it for me. First of all, who knew that The National Enquirer still existed. I feel like I haven’t seen or heard that name since the mid-2000’s, but noooo, it’s still been going until what people are calling its total death this week…as its former publisher David Pecker took the stand in Trump’s trial. Also the name Pecker??? The jokes we could make, but will spare you from. You’re welcome. -MM

A topic I’ve got my eye balls on… is the news out of Arizona last night about hair drip man and his partners in literal crime… ICYMI a grand jury in AZ indicted former White House aid to Trump, Boris Epshteyn, former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and Rudy Giuliani, and numerous fake electors over their efforts to overturn the 2020 election. So very curious where this all lands – hopefully in accountability land. -MM

Something I can’t get enough rn is… women calling out people for titling/dubbing when a dad watches their kid as babysitting, as opposed to what it is…actually being a parent. It’s one of those scenarios that really show the reality of how women shoulder so much more responsibility then their partners (most of the time) when it comes to raising their children, despite “times having changed.” -MM

With summer on the horizon, I’m…ordering sunscreen. Not that you shouldn’t be wearing it all year long [ahem Kristin Cavallari, MA’AM, but obvi for summer, I’m stocking up. ATM, this is the one I’m starting the szn with. I also recently got this primer sunscreen combo – the jury is still out on how I feel about it, but I love the concept at the very least. If anyone has a fave I should try, obvi let me know. -SK

A place I’m dying to go is… Montana! I don’t know what is up with me recently, but I would love to do like a girly rodeo type trip. Yes, this is coming from someone who absolutely will not get on a horse post Iceland trip [tbt], but liiiiiike it could be so cool??? Every Montana reader right now is def giving me the stinky eye. -SK

A sitch I’m holding my breath about is… literally which SCOTUS case to start with… I guess I’ll flip a coin and say the Trump immunity casethis was the scariest clip and take away from it so far. June is giving me nightmares. -SK

In a land of bonkers political happenings… the fact that a former president and candidate for president again keeps falling asleep at his CRIMINAL trial, and farting too, is the most fever dream scenario of fever dreams. The bar is not just on the floor for society, not just in the basement, it’s at the earth’s core at this point. -SK

A topic I’ve got my eye balls on…net neutrality is back bb!!! This falls into the good news for all categories of things IMO. This means that internet providers can’t play favorites with websites or require customers to pay fees for an even playing field amongst offerings. YAY communication routes! -SK

Something I can’t get enough rn is…Kim Kardashian meeting with VP Harris about criminal justice reform is at the top of the list. I respect her bipartisan approach and making progress on the issue first – during the Trump years and now. -SK

A look BTS

OOOOOH THAT’S NIIIIIICE

Lil’ things we’re loving

  • For the NY’ers in the building, if you haven’t tried Gnocchi on the 9th yet, we wish you luck standing in what will be a really long line after this vid went viral. That said, $10 gnocchi is $10 gnocchi, so worth it.

  • The Gov Club ‘rolodex of recs’ has been added to, with cutie new recs for DC and SF biz and fun moments. We recommend checking it out and adding to it to help the girlies out.

ADD TO THE DMS

Makin’ there way from DM to DM

  • We love seeing what a day in the life of an elected official looks like, so naturally we loved seeing what a day in NY Governor Hochul looked like.

COMING SOON

New episodes, new format

We have a new format for the show coming live to you starting May 1st! It’s going to fab, it’s going to be fun, it’s going to be funny. It’s also going to focus exclusively on sharing the stories and personalities of elected officials and candidates. A little of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of humanizing – something that’s been seriously MIA in politics as of recent. Stay tuned, stay read, stay excited – and apparently stay expecting us to write in ‘sets of three’s.’

…oh, and in the meantime, make sure to…
