Something on my radar is… in Ohio they now allow school districts to offer offsite religious instruction as an opt-in during the school day. And in one school district where Christian students had an opt-in, a family has requested a Satanic Temple option. It’s the “oh you thought this only meant for your religion” part of the FAFO that keeps it all interesting. -Maddie

Something that’s nightmare fuel vibes is… where SCOTUS is rumored to be leaning on a case they just heard on transgender healthcare. The case came out of a ban on gender-affirming care for minors in Tennessee – this gives the most concise recap of it all IMO. -Maddie

Something that I think people should read is… this deep dive into how Texas officials are working ‘round the clock to find and designate state-owned land to house migration detention and deportation centers around the state. So Xmas spirit of them, really! -Maddie

And an episode I think people should circle back to is… our interview with Senator-to-be x current Congressman Andy Kim. It’ll give you a good idea on who he is as a person, and also why he won, which is something we need to be examining as we go into these next few cycles. -Maddie

Something on my radar is… the fact that Blue Cross Blue Shield is now no longer going to cover anesthesia for the full length of certain surgeries aka if a surgery exceeds the insurance company’s predetermined time on how long the surgery should take, the patient is on the hook for it in NY, CT, and MO. So… they want people to die?? All this does is encourage surgeons to work too quickly, ignore safety guardrails, put patients in danger, prevent people from seeking care because they might not be able to afford extra costs, and so on. Whoever makes these decisions should be required to be evaluated for psychological issues – and it shouldn’t be covered by insurance. -Sammy

Something that’s nightmare fuel vibes is… the fact that Trump – or any president – can just give out security clearances. Like regardless of FBI background checks or nah, he can just hand ‘em out like candy. I feel like there needs to be some sort of check on this… and also why isn’t there one? -Sammy

Something that I think people should read is… this interview with Ag Secretary Tom Vilsak on why Dems are failing to understand rural America and how they seem to miss on connecting their policies to the wins of farmers. -Sammy

And an episode I think people should circle back to is… our interview with Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell. She gave us the 411 on how Dem AGs are prepping for Trump’s second admin and all the insanity that’s going to come with it. -Sammy

OOOOOH THAT’S NIIIIIICE

Lil’ things we’re loving

  • AG Campbell shared a Spotify Wrapped 2.0, feat. a “music evolution” that was defined by April’s “Crunchy Granola Environmentally Conscious Core” and September’s “Slaying Corporate Greed So You Can Work, Work, Work, Work…”.

  • These icons having an absolutely gorgeous dance party in the women’s bathroom in the capitol, aka F you @ Nancy Mace & Speaker Johnson.

  • There’s someone putting mini ducks all over NYC and Sam was actually next to said person and their friend on the sub, where they were chatting about it. Then an article about it dropped in Gothamist. So, basi Sam spotted celebs without knowing it.

  • These content ideas that we’d love to see elected officials try out. Requirements: a ring light.

Makin’ their way from DM to DM

  • This graphic illustrating the political leanings of cat owners, dog owners, owners of both, and owners of none is interesting AF.

  • Senator Fetterman shared that he’d vote to confirm DeSantis to lead the defense department if he admits there’s lifts in his shoes. Deceased. Dead. Cannot breathe.

  • At a glance, these women veterans shared what they think about the nominee [as of this moment] to lead the defense department [DeSantis is rumored to be a backup pick] – a guy that doesn’t think women should serve in combat roles.

  • Senator Cory Booker is renewing his spotlight on making America healthy again with a bill and a Reel’…something that we said Dems should’ve been owning for a v v v v long time on the latest pod

TAKE ACTION – TELL CONGRESS TO PASS THE TREAT & REDUCE OBESITY ACT

Brought to readers on behalf of the Health Equity Coalition for Chronic Disease

Obesity is a serious, progressive, and chronic disease. But it is also treatable and preventable. This Congress has the power to immediately expand Medicare access to obesity medicines, which could help vulnerable populations AND save taxpayers up to $245 billion over a decade. Congress can address this crisis by passing H.R. 4818/S. 2407: the Treat and Reduce Obesity Act (TROA), which would expand access to critical obesity medications for millions of Americans enrolled in Medicare.
