The Yapper's Digest: October 11, 2024

“I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you not me” Putin to Trump on orange man secretly sending him COVID tests amidst a global pandemic where Americans were dying en masse.

A story that I’m keeping my eye on is… oh you know, just this one where the RNC is making attempts to stop U.S. voters abroad from being able to cast their ballots. It’s almost like they know if people actually vote, they’re out of a job. -Maddie

A happening that I think more people should know about is… that the GOP in West Virginia is trying to knock our girl Kayla Young from her seat in the leg for these insane reasons. They also just had a special sesh there and this was the result. -Maddie

Something to dig into is… this evolving but truly insane bibles required in school by the state’s superintendent in the Oklahoma situation. Does he know that separation of church and state isn’t dead orrrr is he too in love with the Donald and his branded bibles to notice?? -Maddie

A story that I’m keeping my eye on is… the increased violence and threats against elected officials and gov workers, which is so concerning. Literally, in Arizona a DNC campaign office was the target of a THIRD shooting in the last few weeks. Thank God no one was injured, but like what are doing fam?? -Sammy

A happening that I think more people should know about is… generally down ballot races! We obvi need to win the top of the ticket, but if we want to protect majorities in state leg’s or create them, or ensure that an AG is aligned, and so on – paying attention to down ballot is where it’s at. For North Carolina voters, this gives you a fun way to get to know some of the candidates. -Sammy

Something to dig into is… the strategy this year of not doing debates. The Hill covered a bit of the trend here as it relates to Senate candidates, but I think given that Trump said no to a second debate, it points to an interesting cross-ballot trend. Really curious what people’s thoughts are on this.. Should we talk about it on next week’s pod? -Sammy

ON THE POD: CONGRESSWOMAN MIKIE SHERRILL [NJ]

Abortion bans and their impact on military service members and their families

How does the overturning of Roe impact those serving in our military and their families? We get into that question and answer with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill who has focused legislatively on trying to protect and enhance access to reproductive care for those serving our country. Core to this conversation is a revelation that not only is the GOP anti-healthcare, but they also are anti-transparency. Outside of repro, we also chat about the 2024 election and what may be ahead for the Congresswoman as she considers a run for NJ governor next year. Tune into the convo via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

OOOOOH THAT’S NIIIIIICE

Lil’ things we’re loving

  • This $2 lipliner in the shade Pinky Swear is the best $2 we’ve ever spent on anything, TBH.

  • The Vote Bestie tool for PA college students is SO good. It’s easy to use and gives you all the help you need to figure out how to register to vote, find your polling place, etc.

  • VP Harris has taken a swing at the caregiving crisis with a proposal that Medicare pay for home health care.

  • These GAP studded jeans are on sale for under $50 and honestly are way cuter than the Reformation ones – sorry ‘bout it.

ADD TO THE DMS

Makin’ there way from DM to DM

  • Speaking of ‘form’ – these two, rather Elon and Tucker we’re in their usual creepy AF form talking about voting for Trump and other things of full creep level in this clip.

  • Not to be negative nance’s but there’s also now this member of Congress in Arizona [Juan Ciscomani ] who founded a far-right Christian Nationalist group called the Patriot Academy that amongst its goals is re-writing the Constitution. The Dem running to kick him to the curb is Kirsten Engel

  • Okay, sorry, one more thing on the negative front for this edition of Yapper’s Digest – Ron DeSantis is legit threatening TV stations with criminals charges for airing ads in favor of/informing voters about the ballot measure that could restore abortion protections in the state.
