“You do not need to push out a baby to help push humanity forward” - Tracee Ellis Ross

A story on my radar is… a good news story out of Kentucky! Governor Andy Beshear signed an executive order banning conversion therapy in the state. And they say Dem governors can’t do things in GOP-dominated [legislatively] states? YA OKAY SURE. -Maddie

A story that has my jaw on the floor… is the Mark Robinson of it all. Now here’s the thing, this man who has gone on record before saying “some people just need killing” amongst having showcased a laundry list of extremist, antisemitic, misogynistic, transphobic, views, has been caught proclaiming himself a “Black Nazi” on an online porn forum, admitting to be peeping on women in the shower, and fantasizing about wanting to be in the KKK. But the important part is that there’s a NORMAL candidate named Josh Stein running on the Dem ticket. -Maddie

Something people should keep in mind this election season… is that we probably won’t know the results on election night, and therefore to be patient. Poll workers and election workers as a whole will be working around the clock, following the rules of their jurisdiction – be patient. Maybe we’ll have Sam do a debrief on this on next week’s podcast intro since she legit just spent loads of time with all the battleground election people. -Maddie

An article I’d send in the group chat… is this one from Politico detailing the House bill that was passed unanimously to bolster security for presidential nominees. 405 members of congress agreeing on something?? Color me shook.  -Maddie

A GATG eppy I’d remind friends to listen to is… the eppy we dropped last week with Michigan state Rep. Jaime Churches, whose seat is a must-win for making sure Michigan stays blue. She also gives the deats on the bestie group chat amongst state reps across states that’s everything and more. -Maddie

A story on my radar is… the ethics story surrounding New York magazine reporter Olivia Nuzzi having a personal relationship [albeit not physical] with RFK Jr. And the reason it’s on my radar? Partially the ethics, but mostly because HOW ARE THESE WOMEN LIKE OMG YES THESE MEN?? They’re heinous and I’m perplexed. -Sammy

A story that has my jaw on the floor… is… well, honestly nothing shocks me anymore, i.e. when insane people do insane things, but alas I’m just going to send y’all to the intro of our eppy this week because we covered some seriously pippin’ hot political gos, all alleged of course. -Sammy

Something people should keep in mind this election season… is that the head of elections in battleground states – some of which are Democrats and some of which are Republicans – are committed to ensuring a fair and just election. They’re also the most organized people I’ve ever met, and I can confidently say they are all ready for the challenges come election day and beyond (fingers crossed there won’t be any). -Sammy

An article I’d send in the group chat… is this one with breaking news on what’s going on in the Georgia elections. I sat in the room with Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger – a Republican – at a bipartisan roundtable on elections in battleground states like his. He recommended that the State Election Board should not be making any election rule changes with less than 90 days until election day. The state’s AG [not at the event] also recommended against any rule changes. The State Election Board said LOL we don’t care and is changing the rules, which means it will take way longer to know a result because the rule will require all precincts to also headcount all ballots. I’ll be posting more Brad clips on our TikTok/Insta/YouTube to fill in the blanks. Stay tuned. -Sammy

A GATG eppy I’d remind friends to listen to is… our interview with US Senate candidate, former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell who is making BLUE waves in Florida with the mission of ousting Rick Scott (that bald guy with wack ideas that lies) and getting results for Floridians. -Sammy

ON THE POD: IT’S MARYLAND’S DECADE

An interview with Maryland Governor Wes Moore

If you end up moving to Maryland after listening to this episode, we will not be surprised. The state’s Governor Wes Moore joined us to talk about where the state is going and what it’s doing – here’s the hint, it’s going up and it’s doing big things. Those big things include major economic growth and making communities safer, two pillars we dive into in this conversation. We also chat on MD’s must check out places and spaces, the Ravens, fantasy football, and so much more. Tune in via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

POLITICAL FASHUUUUUUN

Get this look – Kamala’s Midnight Purple suit

OOOOOH THAT’S NIIIIIICE

Lil’ things we’re loving

  • Miss Opal Lee is one of the coolest people we’ve ever met, and her standing with VP Harris commanding (her words, not ours) people to vote is beyond iconic. We’re double fangirling, and jumping on the bandwagon and reminding you to register to vote (and to make a plan).

  • This NY-based creator is doing a TikTok series spotlighting food-related businesses and restaurants that need some love, which is conveniently something we love. adds to faves

  • On a bipartisan note, we low key, high key love that two reps crossed the aisle to compete in a beer brewing competition. Very Oktoberfest, very demutezy.

ADD TO THE DMS

Makin’ there way from DM to DM

  • We truly have no words for this pro-Trump “fashion show” and sing-a-long event on Long Island that appears to have really gotten the crowds going………

  • Oh, were we gossiping? We think not, as this creator notes, we’re just out here doing unpaid investigative journalism. Slay.

  • This healthcare provider shed light on how the exceptions in abortion bans don’t actually allow for exceptions – they’re a farce meant to pacify, not save women’s lives.

LET’S GET CIVICALLY ENGAGED
