The Yapper's Digest: Debating debates, hammock man, & a JFK eats cheat sheet

And then you need to kick that f——— door down.” - VP Harris

“We have to know that sometimes people will open the door for you and leave it open. Sometimes they won’t. And then you need to kick that f——— door down.” - VP Harris

Something new I tried recently is… I went to Tiger Fork in DC! It was really good, and the drink menu was really cool. Will def be back. -Maddie

Something that’s blowing my mind is… the fact that there’s going to be an estimated 380,000 teacher layoffs this year when we’re already in a midst of an education crisis – and a literacy crisis for that matter. Also, kids are still behind from COVID, so like WTF? Education is fundamental to everything else we do. We really need to fix this, from every angle [teacher pay especially].  -Maddie

Something in the politi-scape that’s making me LOL is… Kristi Noem is now banned from ANOTHER reservation in her state. It’s like a car crash you can’t look away from. Where will she be banned from next? Taking guesses, TYSM.  -Maddie

Something I think more people should know about is… this newsletter LOL. No but seriously… guys, fwd it to a friend. Oh, and what we tease in this week’s episode intro ;) Get excited!!  -Maddie

Something that is worth keeping an eye on is… bipartisanship. Believe it or not, it’s still something that’s happening…like everyday. Just this week, Senator Ernst [R] and Gillibrand [D] introduced a bill that, if passed, would strip federal pensions from convicted sex criminals. Those two don’t agree on a lot of things, but they agree on some things, and are not walking away from that. That’s important. -Maddie

Something new I tried recently is… the Blood Orange Seltzer from Nature’s Promise. It’s SO good. My favorite type of citrus are blood oranges. I had them all the time circa Italia time, and I just need everyone to love them as much as I do – and same with it in seltzer form. It’s great because it doesn’t taste artificial or have a weird taste. It’s just actually good. -Sammy

Something that’s blowing my mind is… how wildly off polling seems to have become the last few cycles. This week’s primary results in the Dem Maryland Senate race are indicative of that. They had Trone beating Alsobrooks, but the result was Alsobrooks blazing right past him. Like, what is going on with these pollsters? -Sammy

Something in the politi-scape that’s making me LOL is… that we’re now going to have [at least as of today] presidential debates…and now they’re debating the debates… Biden’s challenge-style Reel killed me. -Sammy

Something I think more people should know about is… that once you turn 65, as a majority, anti-obesity meds aren’t covered by Medicare, meaning seniors lose access to life-saving medication. It’s something that can be fixed however by good ol’ Congress. You hit send on this note from the National Council on Aging to tell ‘em to get on it. -Sammy

Something that is worth keeping an eye on is… which of the MAGAs find themselves trying to get press time at Trump’s trial entrance. They’re looking to get something out of it (duh), and the possibilities range from VP pick to Project 2025 priorities. -Sammy

ACTION ITEM: KEEP RURAL HOSPITALS FUNDED & OPEN

Brought to you by the Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare

The federal government pays hospitals just 84% of the cost of caring for our seniors under Medicare. And yet, some in Congress are calling for further reductions to Medicare hospital funding. When reductions happen, hospitals that are already navigating tough financial times, workforce shortages and soaring inflation are more likely to close, jeopardizing access to 24/7 care. Between 2010 and 2022, 143 rural hospitals closed — 19 of which occurred in 2020 alone. Congress needs to act and ensure healthcare access.

Makin’ there way from DM to DM

  • So, this vid of the hammock man was making its viral round, and turns out it’s a planned skit.

  • Patrick Mahomes is doing what Harrison Butker [misogynistic kicker who told women there was role was a homemaker in a commencement speech] could never do, with his ode to women’s professional sports.

  • We knew this douche canoe looked familiar, and Jess Craven brought us the answers as to why. And, it’s not good. Very not good.

  • There’s nothing like a former president and candidate for prez round two praising a fictional serial killer at a rally down the shore… nothing to see here folks…

  • If we for whatever reason become the owners of a Lambo, we will not be wrapping it like this
