The Yapper's Digest: July 11, 2024

“You think you just fell out of a coconut tree? You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you”  -VP Harris’s most meme-able moment.

Something I’m excited for is… to stay on theme, Hannah Berner’s Netflix special which just went live. Cannot wait to watch and giggle. -Maddie

A story that needs more eyes on it… in Nevada – a swing state BTW – commissioners have refused to certify two local recounts. Literally the three Republicans on the board said ‘nope.’ It’s this type of thing that [amongst other things] that really worries me ahead of November and elections to come. All politics is local, and local is often national as per this example. -Maddie

Something I read that’s worth passing to a pal… is this look at the barriers to voting for Native Americans and what needs to change to break down those barriers. -Maddie

Somewhere I need travel recs for is… Denver! If you’ve been listening to the pod [wink, wink, nod, nod], you’ll know about this August concert trip. I’m going to have a little bit of time to explore, so LMK what I should check out.  -Maddie

A rec I can’t stop talking about is… the rodeo in Montana! Just did a trip to visit family there and we went to this one in Darby. It’s called the Twisted Nut rodeo LOL. I did not pick the name, so don’t come for me. So fun though! -Maddie

Something I’m excited for is… THE GIGGLY SQUAD BOOK COMING OUT NEXT YEAR! Did I see a book coming? No. Am I beyond about it? Duh. -Sammy

A story that needs more eyes on it… I jabbed at this a bit in Gov Hub this week in Bills, Bills, Bills, but the GOP is trying to roll back energy efficiency standards for fridges and dishwashers. Honestly, the names of the bills are pretty funny, and the guise they’re under is “for consumers,” but from my views, driving up costs and hurting the environment in the midst of yet another deadly heat wave seems not in the long term interest of consumers, so… -Sammy

Something I read that’s worth passing to a pal… this cool story about how sheep are keeping solar farms in tip top shape! -Sammy

Somewhere I need travel recs for is… Venice Beach! I’ve been a ton, but not in a WFH-capacity. Taking all cafe-type recs, and obvi all the pilates class recs, plzzzzz!! -Sammy

A rec I can’t stop talking about is… The Connection Cure by Julia Hotz! I’m almost done reading it and it talks all about how doctors are ‘social prescribing’ – community, outdoors, etc, and it’s so interesting. Mo – if you’re reading this, you’ll get your book back at the end of the week LOL luv u! -Sammy

ON THE POD: REP. MCGARVEY, MADDIE + JACK HARLOW

An interview with Congressman McGarvey [KY]

We all thought Maddie had moved on to Zach Bryan, but her heart is still with Jack Harlow, forever and always, as we find out on this episode with Congressman McGarvey, a fellow Kentuckian. Part matching making discussion for Maddie and Jack Harlow, part conversation on how to help small businesses grow, and part conversation on bipartisanship - not to mention the quirks of Congress, we took this conversation all over town – which you should do too, by sending it to a friend that’s curious about the Dem that KY Senate Dems famous on TikTok before heading to DC. Tune into the episode on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.

ADD TO THE DMS

Makin’ there way from DM to DM

  • We’re not sure who thought creating a wax version of Abe Lincoln and putting in the DC was a good idea, but honestly him melting like this is giving the vibe we’re all feelin’.

  • A Joe Biden summer has popped into the meme-sphere post-debate, and it looks like this.

  • This breakdown of the study that came out sharing the they found arsenic and lead in Tampons is super helpful to get the lay of the toxic land.

  • This round-up of internet trolls and their profile pics is so accurate – trust us as people that have several videos stuck on the Trump troll side of TikTok.

  • We have never related to a cat more… than this one… especially when trying to pack two weeks worth of clothes into a carry on.

  • I’ve Had It Podcast has been clipping their conservative self-owns that they read on the pod, and it does not miss.
