“This is a man that's extremely dangerous. I want the entire country to pay attention to who he is.” - Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, candidate for US Senate [FL] on her opponent Senator Rick Scott

Something that I think more people should consider… despite even myself first reacting to the Trump rally news from the weekend with “oh fuck we’re screwed,” we’re really not. Trump is still the heinous 34 felony charges, Jan 6 conspirator that he’s always been. The Dems are still for democracy. We need everyone to ENCOURAGE turning the fuck out in November, not discourage or get everyone feelin’ hopefuless because that does not do shit, ya know? -Maddie

A rec of the week from my end is…the cord headphones – literally the pods do not hold their charge long enough especially when you have flight disaster after flight disaster. The cord does not disappoint. -Maddie

Something that deserves zero stars… United Airlines who were responsible for me almost sleeping in an airport for a second time. We talked about how absurd their bullshit is on the pod this week. Take a listen and it is a warning not to fly United. -Maddie

…verus something that deserves five stars… this look at how Hawai’i is rolling out a new apprenticeship program for aspiring educators with the goal of increasing teacher retention. Interestingly they’re using some federal funds to make it happen too. Obvi, a huge piece of the puzzle is increasing teacher pay, however, this hits on other elements that need to be solved for. -Maddie

An episode of ours I think people should revisit is…our episode with Rep. Pramila Jayapal on the Transgender Bill of Rights. It’s not just a convo on something we need done legislatively, but a convo on how the filibuster is the biggest cockblock in the world and literally stops progress in its place. -Maddie

Something that I think more people should consider… is that fact that the Democrats have actually been able to pull off huge long term wins for Americans with a barely there majority in the Senate like the Inflation Reduction Act, the PACT Act, the bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the most diverse bench of appointed federal judges, and so much more. It’s hard to see and feel some of these wins right away, but the biggest investment in climate change reduction policy is not something that has all results materialized overnight. -Sammy

A rec of the week from my end is…Narwhal Coffee in Santa Monica has a slice of my heart because their large iced coffees are actually the size of a large, not a sip with five million ice cubes LOL. -Sammy

Something that deserves zero stars… Hulk Hogan speaking at the RNC. Like what??? They’ve genuinely pulled together the weirdest, most random group of people to give their two cents. There’s also something comical about the list having people listed as “everyday American.” -Sammy

…verus something that deserves five stars… while I can’t necessarily give five stars for what the result will be because that’s TBH, but give stars to New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for calling a special session to address real issues impacting the state including gun violence, drug ODs, and organized crime. Stepping up to the plate and doing one’s job is a five star type of thing if ya know what I mean. -Sammy

An episode of ours I think people should revisit is… our eppy with Rep. Khanna on term limits and other reforms for SCOTUS. Apparently, Biden is increasingly open to pushing for court reforms, which tbh honey bunches where you been??? But alas, this will give you an idea of some of the reforms up for consideration. -Sammy

ON THE POD: TURNING FLORIDA BLUE BABY

An interview with Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, candidate for US Senate [FL]

There’s a rather spicy US Senate race going on in Florida ICYMI and if you’ve been out of the loop on it, this is the episode to use to catch right on up. The reason? Our guest, former Congresswoman Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, the Democratic candidate for US Senate in Florida, who is taking on Senator Rick Scott [who BTW keeps lying about where he stands on IVF to voters]. She tells about his short-comings [there are a lot], what issues Floridians are contending with, and how she plans to use her experience as a former Congresswoman to help improve the lives of people in her home state. She also tells us about her favorite things about the state, including recs for visiting the Keys. Tune in on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
