“It’s bring your felon to work day” - Adam Schiff on Trump on the Hill
Something I’m obsessed with rn is… Congressman Robert Garcia not just fighting back against attempts by the GOP to put anti-drag provisions into the NDAA, but he literally quoted “these gays are going to murder us” and featuring a poster sized version of Giuliani in drag. He also made some super powerful points – highly rec watching the clip of it. -Maddie A song I keep hitting play on is… please, please, please from the one and only Sabrina Carpenter, who BTW is all beloved by our guest on the pod this week, Will Rollins. As Sam said here, get yaself a member of Congress that listens to Sabrina Carpenter and also is behind democratic reforms like term limits. -Maddie A bit of good news bears before Monday is… that a bill passed in NY that would have the Christopher St Station [NYC] renamed to Christopher Street-Stonewall National Monument Station. The Governor has to sign it for it to actually happen, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t? We love a visibility moment. -Maddie Something I can’t stop thinking about is… GOP Senators blocking a right to IVF bill. Again, we knew that’s what they were going to do. It was about getting them on record about it. However, that fact that THAT is what they’re standing for is truly insane. The amount of people that I know across the political spectrum that have done or are doing IVF, and meanwhile this is what they’re doing as a party?? -Maddie A story that I think is worth people reading is… oh you know, just this story about Clarence Thomas getting more PJ time. Something to think about as more SCOTUS decisions roll out. -Maddie | Something I’m obsessed with rn is… I got these H&M hoops for $3.00 in store on sale even though I’m usually allergic to all the not gold stuff yada yada, and shouldn’t have. But I said to myself – beauty is pain and hives (don’t take my advice tysm), and I am LIVING for them now. And thankfully I haven’t had an allergic reaction so yay but okay medical mystery??? Anyways, I think hoops can seriously bring up someone’s mood, at least mine so yay. I couldn’t find the exact ones, but these are pretty close in style. -Sammy A song I keep hitting play on is… High Road with Koe Wetzel and Jessie Murph. There’s low key some big internet drama about it, which I think from trying to understand it, is a lot of dudes pissed that Jessie was added to the track…? Which, like… why? Her voice is amaze. -Sammy A bit of good news bears before Monday is… SCOTUS keeping mifi legal. The reason however was procedural, so I would not be shocked if another anti-abortion group tries a new angle to bring this before the court. Either way, right now, a win is a win. -Sammy Something I can’t stop thinking about is… the fact that SCOTUS just nixed a bump stock ban making them legal again and making the world more dangerous as a result. -Sammy A story that I think is worth people reading is… this article on how women are being prosecuted for using abortion pills. It’s chilling but important. Send it to a friend that’s considering moving to a state with an abortion ban. -Sammy |
ON THE POD: ELECTING NORMAL PEOPLE
An interview with Will Rollins, Candidate for Congress in CA’s 41st District
Will Rollins is running for Congress in SoCal with the goal of thoughtfully escorting the current Republican incumbent to the curb (of one of the buildings that said incumbent allegedly owns and has raised rent prices on for residents during a housing crisis). In this episode, we chat with him about this race, his prior run, and the critical nature of name recognition. We also zero in on the need to stop the clown show in Congress and a desperate need for more normal people to run for office. There’s a lot that can change with this seat, and we get into it all, and you can too by tuning in via Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
