“Beach blonde, bad built, butch body” - Rep. Crockett

An article I read and would rec is… this one from RollCall on the Norfolk Southern settlement, which includes reactions from residents. These people deserve so much better, and it’s so crazy to see how much money each individual will even get. We need to pass rail safety reform ASAP. -Maddie

An action item people should do is… sign this petition from our friends at Coalition to Strengthen America’s Healthcare to tell Congress to protect funding for rural hospitals, which are in serious crisis right now. -Maddie

A political story I have my eye on is… what’s happening with abortion pills in Louisiana. It’s sickening and scary for a lot of reasons, but of course because states like to copy each other’s playbooks. So, what state will come in next and do the same? I have quite a few I would put money on. -Maddie

Something I’m absolutely obsessed w/ rn is… the fact that Jessica Biel co-wrote a book called A Kids Book About Periods, and actually talks to her sons about periods. Role. Model. TYSM. -Maddie

A GATG eppy that’s uber relevant rn is… this one with the National Young Farmer’s Coalition since the farm bill is being hit back and forth across the ping pong table of policy. It’s a behemoth of a bill but really important to know about even if you don’t live in a rural area. -Maddie

A campaign I’m keeping an eye on is… Debra Shigley who’s running for state House in Georgia and actually just won her primary this week. Have I mentioned her before? Either way, def one to pay attention to and she’s great on TikTok. -Maddie

An article I read and would rec is… this article in USA Today about how women celebrities haven’t jumped into politics in the same way as men. They look at why that is and also the generalized public sentiment toward that idea, like “Oprah should run for president,” etc. -Sammy

An action item people should do is… send this note to the members of Congress asking them to fix Medicare Part-D to ensure that seniors’ meds are covered. Losing coverage for meds just because you turn 65 is heinous. -Sammy

A political story I have my eye on is… how the possible non-compete ban will impact various industries. The Hill did a piece on some of those possibilities, and I’m so curious where it will go from here. This could not just change the way people work and look at their careers, but it could shift an area’s demographics – ex: someone doesn’t move out of state because they can take a job that a non-compete would’ve prevented them from taking. -Sammy

Something I’m absolutely obsessed w/ rn is… our new Gov Club sweatshirts!!!! I’m biased – I GET IT! But seriously, I’m obsessed :) Get yours here! -Sammy

A GATG eppy that’s uber relevant rn is… well, given that Trump admitted that he has his creepy little eyes set on restricting birth control, our episode with Mini Timmaraju, the President & CEO at Reproductive Freedom For All is a must. We literally talk about how this has been the GOP plan, we get into it further here too. -Sammy

A campaign I’m keeping an eye on is… the governor’s race in North Carolina, and thus I’m keeping tabs on Dem AG Josh Stein who’s running against someone that’s debatably more insane than Trump. Highly rec checking out Josh’s campaign and flagging it with any NC friends. -Sammy

ACTION ITEM: STOP DEBIT CARD TRANSACTIONS FROM BECOMING MORE EXPENSIVE

An action item brought to you by New Democracy

A new proposal from the Federal Reserve is set to make your life more expensive – and the same for small businesses. Specifically, the Federal Reserve wants to make debit card transactions MORE expensive for banks to process. Similar policies in the past were a B I G  F A I L U R E. The last time we went through this, in fact, more Americans were left without a bank, and banks were forced to slash popular perks and programs. This meant no debit card rewards, reduced free account offerings, and higher minimum account balances! Tell Congress, naw dawg on this one.

Dems can run in Idaho, and Kaylee Peterson is doing just that

What’s the political landscape in Idaho? Is it really that conservative? Is there a reason the state seems to embrace right-wingers? And what do people think Dems are trying to take from them? These questions and more on the very red state are answered by Democratic Congressional candidate, Kaylee Peterson. She walks us through the state’s media deserts and how that impacts the landscapes, how isolation contributes to fear, and who/what comes into the stoke the flames. We also chat about her campaign, why she’s running, and the need to build party infrastructure in the state. Tap into the convo on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and YouTube.
