“Sleeping. Again” - NBC News Correspondent Lisa Rubin on Trump @ his trial
A political story that’s top of the list for me this week is… the Biden-Harris admin making moves to reclassify marijuana, which is a huuuuge deal. The recommendation for classification has it moving from a Schedule I drug to a Schedule III, i.e. a drug that could be prescribed as a medication. It wouldn’t legalize it federally, but it’s a step in that direction from my vantage point. -MM A social media trend I’m loving right now is… Let me start this out with saying that obvi we are pro gun REFORM here okay??? But this trend with dogs portrayed jokingly as the weapon in a robbery is SO cute. You've got ‘the littles,’ and you’ve got ‘the way too bigs’ for this trend. Love them all. -MM An account I followed recently is… WashPo digital reporter Anna Liss-Roy’s TikTok page! She does a lot of on the go/sidelines reporting, and asks especially Senators WTF is up with bills. I feel like we need more of this from traditional outlets. -MM Something that the political world needs to solve for strategically is… this isn’t a new one, and definitely won’t surprise anyone if you read last week’s newsletter, but text fundraising. It’s gotten SO out of hand. This captures the essence of it too. The way it’s going, it’s just burning people out, which is what happened with the email marketing version of it. I don’t have all the solutions, but the creepy texts are not doing it for me. -MM Something I feel like is always good to have at my desk is… a laptop stand. Honestly, I use it the most when we record the podcast so that I’m not at a weird angle. Sometimes I use it for video meetings too, so if you spend a lot of time during ‘just smile and wave boys’ style meetings, I think it’s a must because it makes your visual better. -MM | A political story that’s top of the list for me this week is… Florida’s abortion ban going into place. Hoping turnout for the ballot measure in November is huge and bipartisan. And when I say hoping, I mean everyone that knows someone in Florida needs to get the scoop on it, register to vote, and show up on election day. -SK A social media trend I’m loving right now is… this one, where the girlies are clapping back to a trad wife junior who’s made a handful of videos bragging about why she’s not a feminist…like…k. Where she’s like “I’m not a feminist, I actually cook,” the girlies are like “watch me cook” and showing them cookin’ it up as surgeons, scientists, and whatever career they’re taking on all gas no breaks. -SK An account I followed recently is… the St. Louis Zoo on TikTok, DUH. My algorithm has really picked up my love for penguins and hippos, and has sent me to every Zoo page available apparently. I’m NOOOOT mad at all. -SK Something that the political world needs to solve for strategically is… informing people. Literally. Olivia Julianna, who’s a Dem activist pointed out how many women in Texas have zero clue about how insane the abortion ban is, and the same for Florida. When you’re already tapped into politics, it seems like the news is everywhere. But if you’re not, that news might not hit your desk until it directly impacts you, a friend, or member of your fam. We have to fix the information gap ASAP. -SK Something I feel like is always good to have at my desk… are thank you cards! I love having a set of cards ready to go, so that I can send a thank you whenever needed, or things like GATG stickers. I usually opt for blank on the inside so that I can use them for all types of handwritten notes as well. If you’re in the market for some, I’m loving these cute floral ones, esp the strawberry print included. -SK |
